What is the School Volunteer Program?
The School Volunteer Program (SVP) is a school and community partnership program, sponsored by Beyond the Bell Branch of the Los Angeles Unified School District . SVP’s purpose is to assist schools with the development of individual school volunteer programs that reflect the specific needs of each school.

Who are we?
People of all walks of life, with their multitude of skills, talents and interests, are encouraged to help in our schools. The School Volunteer Program provides the schools with carefully trained lay citizens who assist in the work of school personnel. Since its inception in 1963, the program has grown from a group of 80 volunteers serving 10 schools to a corps of thousands serving most of the schools in the district.

We make a difference...
Here are some quotes from some of our volunteers and parent-volunteers:

* Have you observed that your students or children have made academic progress?
“When my son arrives from school, he asks me to play math games with him. I also help him when he needs assistance with his homework”.
“The children now ask me for more help. With this workshop, I have discovered the importance of helping them”.

* What was the most helpful thing you learned in the training class?
“I learned how mathematics can be taught in a way that is simple and fun so our children will not find it dull or too difficult to understand”.
“That every child is different and it takes different techniques to reach a child”.
