Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Tentative Timeline:
Please
be aware that the SES application deadline and program implementation dates
will be changing for the 2012-13 school year. Brochures will be mailed to
eligible parents on September 30. The first deadline for parents to submit
an application will be October 26. Tutoring services will start November 15.
There will ONLY be a second application deadline (TBD) if the program does
not become oversubscribed by the October 26 deadline.
2011-12 SES
Program Information:
One of the primary components of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) signed January 8, 2002, requires that grade K-12 eligible students in specific schools be provided supplemental academic services such as tutoring. The NCLB legislation requires that school districts reserve 20% of their total Title One allocation to pay for compliance with the law. Therefore, all payment for FREE tutoring/supplemental educational services will be free to eligible students. Initial eligibility is determined by the school the student attends. If the school is in the second year or more of Program Improvement, then students who attend that school and who participate in the free/reduced meal program are eligible. Supplemental Educational Services are academic assistance or tutoring-type services offered before or after school, on weekends or during off-track time by state approved providers.
Sixty providers are part of the initial group of providers that will work with the students in the LAUSD in 2011-12 (prospective LAUSD providers click here to see the SES process flowchart)
For 2011-12 there are almost 400,000 students eligible for Supplemental Educational Services at 370 Program Improvement schools (click here to see the list of Program Improvement schools). The brochure with descriptions of the various providers was mailed to parents of eligible students on June 1st, 2011. It included a FREE tutoring Signup Sheet where parents can indicate their first, second and third choice for a provider for their eligible child’s FREE tutoring. The actual programs will be offered from
October 2011 to May 2012. The first deadline is June 30, 2011, 5:00 p.m. The final deadline for returning the sign-up sheet is September 30, 2011, 5:00 p.m.
