Initiatives Breed Language/Visual-Performing Arts Project A arts program that promotes language development, self-confidence and leadership through dance, drama and performance. Boys and Girls Club of San Pedro A collaborative effort between South Youth Services, the Boys and Girls Club of San Pedro and the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks that conducts activities such as tennis, football and relay games. A skateboard park is planned. Circle X Ranch A one- day camp experience that is scheduled by the 4 Youth Services Offices. The experience includes educational hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains, arts and crafts activities and a “Wilderness Component” conducted by the Animal Guys. Department of Recreations and Parks A Partnership with the Department of Recreation and Parks that allows high school students to work as tutors to elementary students at the local parks and recreation centers in their community. District C Math Project An after-school tutoring program that focuses on mathematics in 6 middle schools in Local District C. East LA Classic Theatre An arts program dedicated to providing comprehensive literacy training and engaging, relevant theatre experiences to disadvantage youth and minority communities. Hamlin Library Project A project that extends the Wonder of Reading Library after school on selected days. Hollywood High School New Media Project An after-school program that allows students to work in a technological environment to develop projects from classes that incorporates various media techniques and equipment as provided by the instructors. Hope WorldWide Program A partnership dedicated to helping schools and communities in the following areas: 1) Promote caring adults ; 2) Health Care; 3) Safe Places; 4) Help with the development of marketable skills and; 5) Opportunities to serve. Inside Out Community Arts Program An after-school arts-based prevention/intervention program based at Holmes Middle School that uses theater, writing, dance and visual art exercises as building blocks for youth. LA Team Mentoring An activity- based curriculum program that focuses on team building, leadership development and community service, as well as diversity, conflict resolution and academic achievement. LA Scores, Soccer / Literacy Project A unique after-school program that promotes literacy, leadership and teamwork through soccer. Los Angeles Public Library Tutorial Project A Partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library that allows high school students to work as tutors to elementary students at the local libraries in their community. Paint Rock Canyon Program A program structured to help high-potential, disadvantaged, at-risk students to better focus on the importance of higher education and their future by attending a 5 week summer program and a 4 year mentoring program. San Jose Library Project An after-school tutorial program focused on math and literacy. Taking the Reins A partnership which is dedicated to to fostering the physical and mental well-being of teenage girls through equestrian sports. Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz A collaborative that teaches students of the Webster Middle School music program elements of Jazz Music such as history, form and improvisation. United States Tennis Association-Southern California Tennis Association A partnership with the SCTA and Mercedes Benz to challenge LAUSD students to read books along with promoting the game of tennis. The Story Project An after-school literacy program designed to reach aut to at-risk youth and help them sharpen their reading and writing skills. University High School Bilingual Theater Project An after-school arts program dedicated to producing and showcasing plays in both English and Spanish to local elementary schools and to the community. |
